The Political and Economic Situation in Persian-speaking Countries
Afghanistan, Iran and Tajikistan share a language but they also have geo-political and geographical similarities. They find themselves in a precarious state of transition. Internally, party politics forms far too great a concern. For this reason they neglect important issues such as AIDS and youth problems. Uninformed young people find themselves increasingly threatened by dangerous sexual relationships.

-
Concomitantly, the massive increase in drug production within Afghanistan and the drug trade along routes passing through Iran and Tajikistan have led to an enormous increase in drug use.
- Misinformation tainted by propaganda creates a false impression of the disease among the population. AIDS and HIV have been presented solely as the result of sexual relationships, particularly between homosexuals. For this reason, the population itself has placed a taboo on the subject, which makes discussion and public education impossible.
- For reasons to do with politics, the economy and education, many people have left, and will continue to leave, these countries. According to statistics, this group is at particular risk of infection and also poses a risk to the country of their arrival. Urgent measures must therefore be taken to reduce the risk of infection. Upon arrival in a foreign, non-Persian speaking country, these people must have access to information in their native language, so that they do not place themselves and that country at further risk.
